about

This song is what got me started playing the Blues or "Dark Delta Rock" as I call it since for most people "Blues" seems to elicits tired old rich men who play the same chords over and over again and sing in a mumble with ridiculously expensive vintage equipment hanging on to the glory days of 70s rockers and arguing over guitar tone on their yachts.

Anyway ...... this style of song is the CORE of the Blues.

And it's certainly the core of mine since i grew up in Charismatic American Baptism so speaking in tongues and getting possessed was a regular occurrence.

I wrote it off the cuff for a folk session because I thought my emo singer-songwriter sad songs didn't seem appropriate.

This folk session was actually on Valentine's Day and I was dead-certain my ex was about to leave me.

I was right.

Our relationship was failing and I wrote another song on this album about that too.
Can you guess which one?

I think the title pretty much speaks for itself.

lyrics

I said woah baby, I said woah baby,
Please don’t leave, don’t leave me for valentine’s day! X2

I said I know we argue girl I know we fight,
And I know we’ve both slept alone at night,

But please don’t leave me for valentine’s day

I said I know I do things that ain’t too nice,
And I know I do things that don’t suit you right,

But please don’t leave me for valentine’s day

I said woah baby, I said woah baby,
Please don’t leave, don’t leave me for valentine’s day! x2

I said I’d go to forest so the coyotes’d get me
I’d drink myself to death, I’d drown in the Mississippi
If you ever leave me for valentine’s day
I calls in the priest I calls in the doctor
I calls in the whole damn riders from the rapture
If you ever, ever leave me for valentine’s day

I said woah baby, I said woah baby,
Please don’t leave, don’t leave me for valentine’s day! X2

I said I’d drink myself to death, I’d get strapped to the bed
I’d get possessed, I’d eat a ton of led
If you ever, oooh left me for valentine’s day
I said I don’t know if I could control myself and I don’t know if I could stop myself
And I might just, might just be found dead the next day

I said woah baby, I said woah baby,
Please don’t leave, don’t leave me for valentine’s day! X2
Girl I...
Woah baby, Aaaah woah baby,
Please don’t leave, don’t leave me for valentine’s day! X2
No, no, no!
I said woah baby, I said woah baby,
Please don’t leave, don’t leave me for valentine’s day! X2
